Conversion of vehicles to electric drive makes it possible to supply the transport sector with energy from ‘green electricity’. In addition, air pollution and noise from combustion engines can be reduced. Connection of the vehicle batteries on the grid creates a buffer that can help to balance production and use of electricity. Electro mobility could therefore resolve climate and energy challenges of the transport sector.
Schleswig-K.E.R.N. and Southern Denmark have strong competencies and market positions within electro-technical and energy management areas. And a potential exists for a horizontal spread to the upcoming electric vehicle markets. To exploit these possibilities a common effort is required to develop specialized knowledge and to support business development activities. This implies needs for improved competencies and network development within mechatronics, power electronics and energy management supporting development of new technology. Such a focused effort can enhance and strengthen already existing regional development initiatives related to mechatronics and energy efficiency technologies.
